How to get your IRS transcript

We need your IRS Account Transcript(or Record of Account) for each tax year where you had a penalty or interest charge. The transcript lists every transaction code the IRS posted — that's how we compute exactly what you can recover. You pull it yourself; we never ask for your IRS login.

What to gather

  • Account Transcript or Record of AccountOne per tax year (2019–2023) where the IRS charged you penalties or interest. This is the primary document — it has the TC codes.
  • IRS notices (if you have them)CP14, CP161, CP501, CP503, CP504, LT11 / Letter 1058, Notice of Deficiency. Helpful but not required.
  • Proof of paymentsOnly if not already shown on your transcript.

PDF is best. A clear photo works too — just make sure the transaction-code rows are legible.

About ID.me: The IRS requires identity verification through ID.me to access transcripts online. It takes about 5 minutes with a government-issued ID. This is an IRS requirement — we have no involvement in that process.
