Introduction
Covid 843 Refund (the “Service”) is operated by 1776ing, LLC (“1776ing,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it through compliance with this Privacy Notice. Please read it carefully to understand how we collect, store, process, share, and use your personal information. “Personal information” means any information that identifies or can be associated with you.
By accessing, registering with, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Notice. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. This Privacy Notice is incorporated into and forms part of our Terms of Use.
Information we collect
To provide the Service, we collect the following categories of personal information:
- Account information — your name, email address, password, and (for tax professionals) firm details.
- Taxpayer information — your filing status, the tax years at issue, and your Taxpayer Identification Number (SSN or EIN).
- IRS documents you upload — your IRS Account Transcript, Record of Account, and notices, which we read to prepare and compute your Form 843 claim.
- Payment information — processed by our payment processor; we do not store full card numbers.
- Usage and device information — collected automatically, such as IP address, browser type, and how you use the Service, including via cookies and similar technologies.
You provide most of this information directly. If you choose not to provide certain information, we may be unable to provide some or all of the Service.
How we use your information
- To provide the Service — reading your transcript, computing your estimated and final claim, and preparing your Form 843 package.
- To create and manage your account, process payment, and communicate with you (security alerts, account notifications, and support).
- To operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Service, and to detect and prevent fraud or abuse.
- To comply with our legal and regulatory obligations and to enforce our agreements.
How we handle your tax return information
Your IRS transcript and the information derived from it are tax return information. We use and disclose it only to provide the Service to you (including through the service providers described below), as you direct, or as required by law — consistent with the consent you give in our Terms of Use under I.R.C. § 7216. We do not use your tax return information for unrelated purposes, and we never sell it.
How we share your information
We share personal information only as follows:
- Service providers who help us operate the Service under confidentiality obligations — cloud hosting and database, encrypted document storage, customer-relationship tooling, an AI provider used solely to draft the narrative explanation (your SSN is never sent to it), payment processing, and email delivery.
- With your consent, or at your direction.
- For legal reasons — to comply with a court order, law, or government request, or to enforce our rights and protect the safety of our users or others.
- In a business transfer — as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Privacy Notice.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
Data security
We have implemented measures designed to protect your personal information, including encryption in transit and at rest, and your SSN/EIN is never sent to the AI provider. You upload your own IRS transcript — we never ask for your IRS login or act as you. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security; if you have questions, contact us at privacy@1776ing.com.
Data retention
We retain your personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected and to comply with our legal obligations. You may request that we delete your personal information and close your account by contacting us; residual copies may persist in backups for a limited period.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. California residents have rights under the CCPA, including the right to know, delete, and not be discriminated against for exercising those rights; we do not “sell” personal information as defined by the CCPA. Residents of the EEA have rights under the GDPR. To exercise any right, contact us at privacy@1776ing.com.
Children
The Service is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
International users
Your information is processed in the United States, which may not provide the same level of data protection as your home country. Where required, we put appropriate safeguards in place.
Changes to this Privacy Notice
We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. We will post the updated notice here with a new “Last updated” date and, for material changes, notify you. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
